Bike Workshop
ArchitectureBath, United Kingdom(2020)
The use of metal allows for the building to be 'lighter' both literally and visually, as steel members can be thinner than their timber equivalents and glass can have varying degrees of transparency. The pavilion should touch the ground lightly, with minimal foundations only where necessary.
To encourage the use of more sustainable modes of transport, the University of Bath, has commisioned a single-storey bike workshop. It should be constructed using a metal structure and will be clad in metal, plastic or channel glass, clear glass may also be used. In this project, exploration of the boundry between interior and exterior space will be a primary driving force while remaining aware of the "materiality' of the building.
